About Us

Doris DeVor, aka “Miss D”, is the owner of A&B Pet Care, LLC.  In 2013, budget cuts forced Doris to be laid off from her IT job of 23 years.  At the time, Doris was also a 3 year survivor of ovarian cancer.  Realizing that life is short, Doris reassessed her life and decided to switch careers to pursue interests that truly bring her happiness.  Caring for pets was one of those pursuits.

Doris found her calling when she answered an ad for a dog walker in 2014.  She fell in love with “the work”.  The unconditional love from caring for the pets is therapeutic, the exercise is healthy, and she loves meeting new people.  It is a perfect fit.  Doris always says, she doesn’t go to work, she goes to other people’s homes to care for and play with their pets.

In 2018, Doris branched out on her own and created A&B Pet Care, LLC.  Originally established in Prince George’s County, A&B Pet Care, LLC relocated to Calvert County in 2021.  The locations that are served are:  Chaneyville, Chesapeake Beach, Churchton, Deale, Dunkirk, Friendship, Harwood, Huntington, Huntingtown, Lothian, North Beach, Owings, Prince Frederick, Sunderland, and Upper Marlboro.

Doris has a life long history of rescuing pets in need of a forever home.  She has shared her home with numerous cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, reptiles, fish, birds and feral cat communities.  Her current four legged fur baby and leader of the pack is Lola, a 12 year old Beagle/Bassett Hound mix.

In addition to pet care, Doris pursues her love of event planning and crafts.  She enjoys planning parties, weddings, church events, and reunions.  She participates and fundraises for many charities.  The charities that are close to her heart are the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, Autism Speaks, feeding the hungry, and providing supplies to the homeless and domestic abuse survivors through Jessie’s Closet.

Doris is certified in first aid for dogs and cats through the Red Cross and PetTech.  She is a member of Pet Sitters Associates, LLC.  She is insured and bonded.

My name is Lola.  I’m a 12 year old Beagle and Basset Hound mix.  I’m a very friendly pup.  I especially love humans.  Mom warns humans that I shed a lot so expect fur on their clothes when they love on me.  I enjoy treats, belly rubs and following scents.  I would have been a great hunting dog.  When I was a year old, I was Miss D’s neighbor.  I was always escaping from my yard through a hole in the fence.  I would run the neighborhood while my owners were at work and school.

Miss D worked from home.  One day, she coaxed me into her yard and brought me into her home until my owners came home.  After that day, I would squeeze through the gate of her fence and literally jump up on her screen door and “knock” until she brought me inside.  I enjoyed treats and laying on the couch next to her while she worked.

One spring day, Miss D asked my owners if she could take me for a walk.  They obliged.  Later that evening, my owners knocked on Miss D’s door and asked her if she wanted to take ownership of me.  Their preteen son had grown tired of being responsible for a dog. After a vet gave me a clean bill of health, Miss D agreed to become my Mom.  We were a perfect fit from the start.  I’m an alpha dog and the leader of our pack.  I never tried to escape from my new home.

In our old home, Mom would board dogs in our home.  I have lots of friends who I have accepted as part of our pack.  I am very good at dog sitting my friends when Mom is away.  Unfortunately, I’ve been sneak attacked by a few dogs.  Mom always managed to break it up without any injuries.  The attacks have made me leery of dogs that get in my face and dogs with high energy.  I’m older now.  I just want to lay around, eat, sleep and get belly rubs.  My days of running and playing with my friends are rare.

We have recently moved.  Our new home doesn’t have a fenced in yard.  A new member of my human pack is allergic to dogs.  Therefore, Mom can’t board my friends in our new home.  However, we do have friends who still want Mom to watch their fur babies.  As long as our friends don’t mind me tagging along with Mom, we can stay overnight in their homes and watch their four legged family members while they are away on trips and vacations.  I enjoy visiting our friends in their homes.  It is a new adventure.  I like to sniff around their yards and homes.  It is stimulating for me.  I look forward to meeting you and making new friends with your pack members.
